Spring is one of the most exciting seasons for the Dance Arts Academy Foundation. It’s the time when ideas begin to take shape, new partnerships grow, and our community of students, families, and artists come together through the power of movement and creativity.
As we move into the next season of programming, we are focusing on expanding access to the arts, supporting wellness through dance, and creating meaningful cultural experiences for young people and families across our community.
A Season of Programs and Performances
This spring our students are preparing for several performances that celebrate their growth and dedication throughout the year.
Performance opportunities are an important part of our work. They give students a chance to build confidence, develop discipline, and experience the joy of sharing their creativity with others. But for us, the impact of the arts goes far beyond the stage.
Dance and creative expression help young people strengthen their confidence, improve emotional well-being, and develop the leadership and collaboration skills that support them throughout their lives. When students step into the studio, they are not just learning choreography, they are learning how to believe in themselves.
Expanding Wellness Through Movement
We are also excited to introduce a new wellness initiative with Rumba/Latin Dance Workshop, offering dance and movement classes for all ages. Movement is one of the most powerful tools we have for improving both physical and mental health. Research continues to show that regular movement supports:
• reduced stress and anxiety
• improved mood and emotional resilience
• stronger cardiovascular health
• cognitive function and memory
• longevity and overall well-being
Through this new initiative, we hope to create welcoming spaces where families and community members can reconnect with joy, culture, and movement together.
Spring Auction: Supporting Summer Arts Camp
Another exciting initiative this season is our Spring Community Auction, which will help raise funds for our upcoming Summer Arts Camp.
The summer program provides young people with access to dance training, cultural arts education, and performance opportunities that many families might not otherwise be able to afford.
We are inviting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and service providers to participate by donating items or experiences to the auction.
Contributions might include:
• gift cards or service packages
• wellness experiences
• restaurant or hospitality offerings
• creative classes or cultural experiences
• products from local businesses
Every contribution helps ensure that more young people can access high-quality arts education this summer.
If you own a business or service and would like to give back to the community, we would love to partner with you.
Creative Practice Matters
At the Dance Arts Academy Foundation, we believe that teaching artists should not only teach the art—they should also remain active creators within their field.
Our founder, Sakina Ibrahim, continues to work professionally as a choreographer, educator, and storyteller in the arts and media industry. This commitment to creative practice helps bring real-world experience directly into our classrooms and programs.
Recently, Sakina’s podcast We’re Doing the Wiz was nominated for a National Magazine Award, one of the most respected honors in journalism and storytelling.
While the recognition is deeply meaningful, what matters most is how experiences like these continue to connect our students to the broader cultural landscape of the arts.
When young artists see their mentors actively creating and contributing to the industry, it expands their understanding of what is possible.
Join Us as a Community Partner
As we enter thais new season, we invite our community to be part of the work.
You can support the Dance Arts Academy Foundation by:
• contributing to our Spring Auction
• becoming a monthly giving partner
• attending our performances and community events
• sharing our programs with families and schools
A monthly gift of $20 helps us place teaching artists in classrooms, provide wellness workshops for families, and ensure that young people have access to creative opportunities that nurture confidence, leadership, and cultural connection.
Together, we can continue creating a year of impact supporting youth, strengthening families, and making sure the arts remain accessible to all.
